Tina Turner passed away on Wednesday at her home in Switzerland following a protracted illness, her spokeswoman said.
Following her passing at 83, another great is paying tribute to Tina Turner.
Priscilla Presley discussed her legacy in a statement following the confirmation of the rock ‘n’ roll icon’s passing by her spokesman Bernard Doherty on Wednesday.
Presley revealed that Tina Turner was one of Elvis Presley’s favorite artists. “It was pure enchantment when she entered the stage. I recall how her Tina energy captivated a crowd’s attention. We will all sincerely miss her and her great legacy.”
Doherty claims that the iconic singer passed away on Wednesday at her home in the Swiss town of Zürich following a protracted illness. The German actor and music producer Erwin Bach and the American vocalist, born in the United States, have been residents of Switzerland since 1994. In 2013, the singer was granted Swiss citizenship.
“Tina Turner, known as the “Queen of Rock’n Roll,” passed away peacefully today at the age of 83, following a protracted illness in her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, not far from Zurich.
The statement stated, “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model. Close friends and family members will attend a private funeral service. Please respect her family’s privacy at this trying time.”
Turner’s career spanned decades, much like Elvis’, and he shared with Elvis many Top 40 Billboard songs, 25 Grammy Award nominations, a Kennedy Center Honor, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
Before going solo in the 1970s, Turner served as the frontwoman for the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, delivering frantic renditions of “Proud Mary,” “Come Together,” and “I Want to Take You Higher.”
She produced popular songs like “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “Private Dancer,” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” in the 1980s.
Her MTV videos gave her stardom to an entirely new generation and elevated her to the status of a world icon. Four Grammy Awards were given to her 1984 solo album Private Dancer, which sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
The Tennessee native made two albums that sold a lot of copies and sang the theme song for the James Bond movie GoldenEye throughout the 1990s, extending her career.
In the program for the London musical based on her life, Tina, the musician, reflected on her career and said it had been “wonderful.”
“I’ve been blessed with a fantastic career,” she stated in the program for the performance, “and after more than 50 years of performing, I don’t need a musical, I don’t need another show. However, I receive a ton of cards and messages, and I’m constantly in awe of how people feel about me as a performer and the legacy they claim to have left.”
“I’ve been told that I gave them hope. I feel compelled to pass it on since it meant so much to so many people. I also hope this show will serve as a reminder of my efforts for the people.”
