It is with a heavy heart that Paul Michael Glaser, now 80 years old, pays tribute to his dear friend David Soul. The two actors were brought together by their iconic roles in the hit TV show Starsky & Hutch, forming a bond that extended beyond the screen. Glaser fondly remembers Soul as a brother and a caring individual, making it difficult for him to come to terms with the loss.
Their friendship was filled with lighthearted banter, often trading playful insults during their phone conversations. Glaser cherishes these memories and sends his condolences to David’s wife, Helen, whom he knows David loved deeply. He also sends sympathies to David’s sons and daughter and acknowledges the outpouring of support from the public who recognized the special bond they shared.
Starsky & Hutch, which aired from 1975 to 1979, showcased Glaser and Soul’s chemistry as detectives solving crimes in California. The show left an indelible mark on both their careers and their lives.
A Friendship That Stood the Test of Time
In 2023, there were discussions about rebooting the series with female leads. David Soul, ever the optimist, questioned why they couldn’t be part of the reboot as older detectives solving small crimes in an assisted living facility. Glaser, always quick with humor, jokingly referred to himself as an “old fart” without the “old” part. This lighthearted exchange demonstrated their enduring friendship, even decades after the show’s run.
A True Legend Lives On
David Soul’s passing was announced by his wife, Helen Snell, on Wednesday after a courageous battle. Helen paints a beautiful picture of David as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. She highlights his remarkable talents as an actor, singer, and storyteller, as well as his infectious smile, laughter, and zest for life. These qualities will forever be cherished by those lucky enough to have had David Soul touch their lives.
