It is with profound sadness that we inform you about the tragic news of the sudden passing of musician Chuck Morris and his son Charley. After an extensive search that lasted almost a month, their bodies were discovered in a lake in Arkansas. Chuck Morris, 47, was an esteemed drummer for the electronic band Lotus, and Charley, 20, was a student at Ohio Wesleyan University.
On March 16, during their spring break, the Morris family went on a kayaking excursion at Beaver Lake. Unfortunately, Chuck and Charley went missing and hadn’t been seen since. Despite the tireless efforts to find them, their disappearance became a recovery effort after five days, and the hope for a miracle slowly faded away.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office, along with an army of devoted volunteers, dedicated 24 days to the arduous search mission, investing countless hours of their time and unwavering effort. Finally, this past weekend, their remains were discovered in the vicinity of Beaver Lake’s Lost Bridge Village. Sheriff Shawn Holloway expressed his deep gratitude to everyone involved in the search and recovery, recognizing their invaluable contributions.
In a separate statement on their GoFundMe page, the Morris family shared the heartbreaking news that Charley’s cause of death was determined to be drowning, while the cause of death for Chuck Morris remains unknown. Our hearts reach out to the family as they navigate through this unimaginably difficult time, and we extend our deepest condolences for their tremendous loss.
Despite the overwhelming grief, the band Lotus, together with the Morris family, intends to honor the lives of Chuck and Charley. In remembrance of these extraordinary individuals, two shows will be organized at Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium on April 21 and 22. Furthermore, forthcoming performances in Port Chester, New York, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, will also contribute to supporting the family.
Lotus, a highly acclaimed “jamtronica” band, was formed in 1998 and has captured the hearts of many over the past 25 years. With a remarkable discography of 13 studio albums and live recordings, their music has left an indelible mark on countless lives. Last year, they released their latest album, “Bloom & Recede,” showcasing their immense talent and unwavering passion.
Let us come together as a community to remember and celebrate the lives of Chuck Morris and Charley. Through their music and the cherished memories they leave behind, their legacy will endure.
