Michael J. Fox, well-known for his enduring role as Marty McFly in the “Back to the Future” trilogy, has been courageously facing Parkinson’s disease for nearly 30 years. Despite the challenges, he remains a beacon of resilience and positivity for many.

The actor, who received his diagnosis in the early 1990s, has since become an inspiring figure, dedicating much of his life to advocating for research and increased awareness of Parkinson’s.

In a recent heartfelt interview, Fox candidly shared some of the struggles that come with living with Parkinson’s. As he reflects on his journey, he acknowledges the difficulties he now faces more frequently as his condition progresses, openly discussing his mortality and the reality of his health declining over time.

“I’ve managed to stay positive all these years,” Fox shared with CBS Sunday Morning’s Jane Pauley. “But honestly, it’s becoming increasingly challenging. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I may not live to see 80.”

Fox, who was diagnosed after noticing a subtle tremor in his pinkie finger in 1991, now confronts his health struggles head-on with the release of his new documentary, “Still.” The film gives audiences a glimpse into his life over the past decades, marked by triumphs and painful realities.

He reveals in the documentary, “The pain can be overwhelming at times, with each tremor feeling like an earthquake. But more than the tremors, the moments of being frozen feel like energy bottled up, waiting to explode yet never doing so. It’s a unique, burning sensation that’s hard to describe.”

While physical injuries have also taken a toll, with broken bones amplifying the discomfort of tremors, Fox emphasizes resilience. “It hurts. I’ve broken about everything you could imagine,” he admits. Yet, despite the pain, he insists, “Life goes on. You accept it, learn from it, and you carry on, sharing the story if needed, without expecting any compensation for enduring it.”

Ever the optimist, Fox remains determined not to let the disease define him entirely. “I’m not going anywhere,” he declares. Despite announcing his retirement in 2021 due to health issues, he maintains a hopeful outlook: “Even during the toughest times, there’s always more to celebrate in life than there is to dwell on.”
