When 13-year-old Amber disappeared, her mother was consumed with grief and worry. The police were diligent in their efforts to locate her, yet their attempts seemed to lead nowhere.

Every phone call brought a flicker of hope, yet as the days went by, all signs of Amber remained elusive. Knowing her daughter’s character, her mother feared the worst as Amber was not the sort to run away.

Despite the comforting words of those around her, Amber’s mother felt isolated in her despair, each sympathetic gesture only heightening her sense of loss.

One evening, while gazing into the distance, Amber’s mother spotted a backpack that looked like her daughter’s, carried by a homeless woman. A feeling of urgency overtook her, and she hurried towards the woman, recognizing a unicorn patch she had sewn on it, confirming it as Amber’s.

Although reluctant at first, the homeless woman revealed she found the backpack discarded near a dumpster. Amber’s mother offered her money to claim it back, and after some hesitation, the woman agreed.

The backpack was devoid of clues. Was this another dead end?

However, upon inspecting the backpack, Amber’s mom found a tiny slip of paper with ‘Green House’ scribbled on it. Her mind raced to the dilapidated green house in the neighborhood, known for its hurtful appearance and seemingly deserted state. Locals claimed someone lived there, but Amber’s mother had never seen anyone.

Compelled by this discovery, she jumped into her car, her heart pounding with hope and trepidation. The drive to the Green House stretched endlessly, her mind racing. Could this be where her daughter was?

Arriving at the house, she found it to stand starkly against the early evening sky. She exited the car and sped towards it, her footsteps echoing in the calm.

“Amber!” echoed her desperate cry, resounding through the silent corridors. “Amber, it’s Mom! Where are you?”

A soft noise caught her attention, leading her to a small, gloomy room where she found Amber huddled by herself.

“Mom!” Amber’s shout of relief filled the room. “Oh, Amber, thank God I found you,” her mother wept with joy.

Total relief washed over Amber’s mother as Amber shared her story. Taken by a woman who lived in the green house, she had been kept there due to the woman’s delusion; she had lost a daughter and saw Amber as a replacement. Fortunately, she caused no harm but refused to let Amber leave.

The lady was unwell, not harming but confining Amber.

Though safe, Amber was bewildered by the events that transpired.

The police were called in to ensure the safety of the environment and verify Amber’s condition. Handling the woman’s mental health condition delicately, they took her into custody. Eventually, Amber and her mother returned home, grateful for the miracle of their reunion.

Their embrace was filled with newfound hope and determination to move forward and heal together. Although the experience was harrowing, time helped them regain a sense of normalcy.
