Barbara Walters, the legendary newswoman, died on Friday, and tributes from important friends, colleagues, and fans poured in.

“The world of journalism has been dealt a blow to its professionalism, courage, and integrity with the passing of a significant character,” Dan Rather, who once hosted the CBS Evening News for many years, wrote.

“Barbara Walters was a trailblazer and consummate professional in her area. She outhustled, outworked, and outthought her competitors to win the tournament. She left the world a better place than she found it. Everyone will miss her terribly. RIP”

“Barbara Walters died without suffering in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by family and friends,” Cindi Berger, Walters’ spokeswoman, added. “She had a very interesting life.”

The world of journalism has lost a pillar of professionalism, courage, and integrity. Barbara Walters was a trailblazer and a true pro. She outworked, out-thought, and out-hustled her competitors. She left the world the better for it. She will be deeply missed. RIP

“She lived her life without regrets,” Berger said. She was a trailblazer in her area, not only for female journalists but all women in general.

The View co-hosts have sent several tributes to Walters, who started the show in 1997 and ruled over it for a substantial amount of its career. Rosie O’Donnell referred to her former manager and coworker as a “legend” on her Instagram feed.

Star Jones, one of the original co-hosts of “The View,” tweeted this. “I owe Barbara Walters more than I could ever hope to repay. “Rest in peace, sister…mother…friend…colleague…mentor.”

Debbie Matenopoulos, another OG View co-host, confirmed on her Instagram Story that she was pregnant, writing, “so so so sad…. Right now, there are no words.”

“I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. “You single-handedly changed the path of my life and the lives of all other female journalists by clearing the way for all of us to follow in your footsteps,” concluded Matenopoulos. “Amazing woman that you are, I pray that you find eternal rest in your power and beauty. I owe you everything, just as so many other people do. You will continue to be someone I admire.”

The photograph of Walters and Matenopouloson was featured in the 1997 narrative. “My first month on @theviewabc, my best buddy captured this image from the audience and just handed it to me about 4 hours ago!!!” she tweeted of her experience on “The View.” We laughed so hard at how stupid I used to be when I was younger, and then I found out the news about an hour later. This has taken me by surprise. Barbara, I shall always and forever love you. You taught me all I needed to know!!!”
