As we already know, Bruce Willis announced his retirement due to aphasia, a language impediment caused by damage to a specific area of the brain that regulates linguistic abilities and understanding. His family, particularly his wife Emma Heming Willis, is looking after him.
The 67-year-old actor’s diagnosis was a great shock to the Willis family in recent months, but it brought them closer together as a team to fight this sickness.
Willis is said to spend most of his time at home and rarely leaves.
The world was shocked to find that Bruce Willis, whom we’ve known for years, is fighting to maintain his fierce persona.
The well-known actor, best known for his roles in Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, and The Sixth Sense, among other films, is 67 years old and is retiring from acting.
His family issued the following message on Instagram:
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family, we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him”.
“This is a very difficult moment for our family, and we are grateful for your continuous love, sympathy, and support,” the statement said. “We are dealing with this as a strong family, and we wanted to include his fans because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.” ‘Live it up,’ as Bruce often says, and that is exactly what we intend to do. “With affection, Emma, Demi, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, and Evelyn.”
Bruce announced his acting retirement exactly one week later.
Aphasia, according to Dr. Duane Campbell, Chief of Neurology and Director of the Stroke Center at MedStar Health, is a “trapped” feeling.
“It’s incredibly aggravating because people feel imprisoned,” he added. I mean, the capacity to express yourself and communicate is so important to one’s quality of life.”
“Imagine all of your family surrounding you, and you can sense what’s upsetting you – you know, what’s going on – and they’re speaking to you and you can’t understand what they’re saying to you.” It’s incredibly aggravating. It’s really alienating because it’s as if you’re speaking your own language and no one else understands you. That is really painful.”
Emma, Bruce Willis’ wife, and their children are now caring for him. She does not, however, have it easy. Emma stated in an interview that taking care of everyone in the house has had an effect on her health as well.
“Someone told me not long ago that when you over-care for someone, you wind up under-caring for yourself,” Emma added. “That stopped me in my tracks and truly spoke to me.”
We hope that the actor, as we know him, remains strong and spends the rest of his life with joy, tranquility, and happiness with his family.
