It is never easy to learn about the death of a beloved entertainer. Many of Anita Pointer’s and her music admirers were shocked to learn of her death.

Anita Pointer was a member of the original Pointer Sisters, a well-known girl trio. The ensemble was made up of Anita, Bonnie, and June Pointer.

June Pointer died in 2006, followed by Bonnie Pointer in 2020. Anita was the last original member of the legendary group, which was noted for mixing many musical genres throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

According to her spokesperson Roger Neal, Anita died on December 31 at 74, while surrounded by her close family and friends. According to the statement, she succumbed to cancer after a “long and heroic battle.”

Ruth, Issa, and Sadako, the current Pointer Sisters three, are carrying on Anita, Bonnie, and June’s legacy. “While the passing of Anita very saddens us, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter, Jada, and her sisters, June and Bonnie, and at peace,” her living family said.

“She was the one who kept all of us close and together for so long; her love of our family will live on in every one of us,” the statement said. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time. With Anita there, heaven is a more caring, beautiful place.”

Anita Pointer was the fourth of six children born on January 23, 1948. She was raised in California but spent every year in her parents’ home state of Arkansas. She was a member of the school band in high school.

When her sisters Bonnie and June formed a band, she joined them, and they became a trio. The trio immediately became well-known for its diverse music selection. “Fire,” “He’s So Shy,” “Slow Hand,” and “I’m So Excited” are among their best singles.

The Pointer Sisters won three Grammy Awards and were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994. Anita was also honored with induction into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame.

Anita stood down from the Pointer Sisters in 2015 because of persistent health issues. Her daughter died in 2003 when she was 37 years old.

It’s heartbreaking to learn of this death. Our hearts go out to Anita Pointer’s family and friends.

Share this heartbreaking news with other Pointer sisters’ fans so that they can remember her.
