The publishing of Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare has piqued the world’s interest.
He not only gave viewers a glimpse into his working-royal life but also disclosed information about some of his allegedly closest family members. He also discussed his military experience and upbringing, including the death of his mother, Princess Diana.
Archie, Harry’s firstborn child, was the focus of new revelations about Harry and Meghan Markle’s family.
Harry and Meghan like being in the spotlight, but they have made measures to provide their children with a more secure childhood.
As a result, Archie and his sister Lilibet are rarely seen.
However, during the December premiere of the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan let down their guard and shared countless intimate moments with their children.
In Spare, Harry disclosed more insights about his personal life. It’s worth noting that this includes getting high while Meghan gave birth to Archie.
Harry and Meghan’s relationship has become an obsession for the British tabloid press. Even then, it should come as no surprise given that half of the globe is interested in what they are doing.
Harry was “obsessed” about Archie’s safety from reporters.
The announcement that Meghan Markle would join the British Royal Family caused quite a stir because she was already well-known because of her involvement in the television series Suit.
Archie, Harry and Meghan’s son, was born on May 6, 2019, at The Portland Hospital in London. It was a monumental occasion, as any royal child’s birth is, but Harry and Meghan took a different approach.
According to Katie Nicholl, a royal specialist, Harry was focused on hiding information about his baby’s birth from the media. In her book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, Nicholl wrote that Harry was “almost morbidly consumed” with keeping Archie’s birth a secret from the public.
In the “unwritten compact between the royals and the public,” the requirement for privacy was ignored because the young child had millions of dedicated supporters, and most of the public was interested in learning more about him.
“Behind the scenes, things were so tense that, as I know from personal experience, more than one official was moved to tears of anger and despair,” Rebecca English, royal editor of the Daily Mail, added.
The parents of a royal baby usually appear in front of the media on the hospital stairwell with their newborn son or daughter. After the images are taken, the happy parents usually answer a few questions before sneaking away for solitude.
However, according to Katie Nicholl, Harry and Meghan chose a different approach to the birth of their baby. Instead of interacting with the media directly, they mislead reporters and photographers.
The traditional first baby photos were shot at St Mary’s Hospital, where Prince William, Prince Harry, and Prince William’s children were all born. However, Meghan’s doctor worked for Portland Hospital. As a result, it seemed natural to give birth there. The Sussexes were also advised that photos would not be permitted due to safety concerns at the entry.
“Harry had always loved outwitting the media,” Nicholl wrote in his book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Crown’s Future.
“He and Meghan were overjoyed to have their son safely delivered in London’s private Portland hospital even before the palace press office revealed the duchess was in labor.”
Meghan revealed in their Netflix documentary series that she was worried about what might happen on the day her baby boy was delivered.
“The picture was already putting pressure on the steps… But I was anxious going into that delivery because I’m older, I didn’t know if I’d have to have a c-section, and I had a longstanding relationship with my doctor, who I trusted with my pregnancy,” she explained.
However, two days later, Harry and Meghan agreed to participate in a brief picture session during which one reporter was allowed to ask questions.
Although everything was in order, it turned out that their stay in the hospital had been extremely dramatic. At least for Harry, as revealed in his new book, Spare.
Harry and Meghan expressed royal concern about Archie’s skin hue.
Archie was embroiled in a significant conflict inside the Royal Family before he could even speak or walk. It all started with the iconic Oprah Winfrey interview, in which his mother, Meghan, spoke honestly about her time and difficulties living in the UK.
She provided details concerning the Firm, including that then-Prince Charles refused to answer Harry’s phone calls.
The most stunning portion, though, was Meghan’s accusation that discussions had taken place within the palace about how black Archie’s complexion would be before his birth.
“They were worried that if he was too brown, it would be a problem?” Oprah inquired of Meghan.
“I couldn’t follow up on why,” Meghan said. “But if that’s the assumption you’re making, I believe it’s a pretty safe one.”
She refused to identify the person who remarked, saying only, “I think that would be very destructive to them.”
Archie had already arrived when Harry and Meghan’s royal duties formally concluded on March 31, 2020. After the arrival of their daughter, Lilibet, in 2021, the family has grown to four members.
In the first episode of the Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan revealed intimate details about their family life at their home in Montecito, California. Because their house was originally known as “Fort Knox,” it stands to reason that security is tight.
Through the documentary, Harry and Meghan gave royal admirers worldwide unprecedented access to their estate. There, viewers discovered Archie and Lilibet.
Harry and Meghan have been quite careful about how much of their children are revealed to the world. Archie and Lilibet have only been photographed a few times, but the public now has a better look at them.
Despite the documentary’s darker moments, three-year-old Archie steals the show with repeated appearances. Furthermore, the crowd heard him speak for the first time.
Meghan captured Prince Harry birding with Archie from the patio of their Montecito estate in one sweet scene.
Meghan was also observing hummingbirds near their home, and Harry, a passionate bird watcher, advised his son to stay quiet and simply listen to the sounds of nature.
“We’ll never get this near to hummingbirds again,” Harry assured Archie.
Archie, who was only three years old then, did the exact opposite. He became quite boisterous just moments after his father told him to remain quiet.
“I have a dirty foot, mama, because I was with you,” Archie explained, and his parents laughed.
“You have a dirty foot, honey,” Meghan responded. “Papa is a birdwatcher, so this is a big deal for him.”
Several private family photos of Harry and Meghan with Archie were also included in the documentary. Archie runs up a hill in one of the clips while her father pushes Lilibet in a stroller. Another photo of the royal pair shows Harry cuddling up with Archie, dressed in a knitted hooded sweater with bear ears, beneath an umbrella.
More photographs follow, including one of Archie and Meghan feeding their chickens and another from Archie’s birthday party, in which Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, appears.
We all know that the late Princess Diana played a pivotal role in the Royal Family, particularly for her kids, William and Harry. Harry has already spoken about his mother, even comparing Meghan to her in terms of media scrutiny.
Diana played a minor role in the Netflix documentary, not simply through Harry’s memories of her. Meghan may be seen carrying Archie in front of a picture of Diana while explaining who she is in a painful scene.
In other touching photos from the documentary, Archie was seen resting on Meghan’s baby tummy while she was pregnant with Lilibet.
As everyone knows, Princess Diana was very important to the Royal Family, especially to her sons, William and Harry. In terms of the paparazzi following Meghan, Harry has already spoken about his mother and drew parallels between her and Meghan.
Diana was featured in the Netflix documentary through Harry’s memories of her and in a minor role. Meghan is depicted holding Archie while speaking about her identity in front of a picture of Diana in a sorrowful situation.
Other touching photographs from the video include Archie lying on Meghan’s growing baby while she was carrying Lilibet.
But the cutest image of all is Archie in a blue hat and blue Crocs, sitting on Harry’s shoulder in a beautiful father-son moment.
The documentary also contained another short footage of Archie. It shows a lovely sunset from the Sussexes’ patio as Meghan inquires about Archie’s thoughts.
“Well, it’s all done, lovely,” he replied.
The fact that Archie is talking may not surprise you. Many fans, however, were offended by the tone of Archie’s speech. As he’s been living in the US for quite a while, the young boy has adopted an American accent – and fans couldn’t help but remark on it.
“Not Archie having the most adorable American accent,” one user wrote on Twitter.
“Prince Archie has an American accent? I didn’t have any expectations of what he’d sound like, but it was not that,” a second person tweeted.
Experts have previously discussed the question of Archie’s accent. However, he will sound American rather than British because he lives in the US and interacts with other local kids.
However, children who live in the US and have relatives in the UK occasionally change their accents when they cross the Atlantic.
Geoffrey Pullum, a linguist and retired professor of general linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, is one authority who contends that Archie’s accent will alter as he ages.
“If Archie’s first experience of mixing with other kids is in a Los Angeles preschool, he will develop a Californian US accent,” Pullum said.
“He may learn to speak like an American kid in California, but be able to switch to a British accent when he visits in England,” Berko Gleason, an emerita professor at Boston University who researches language acquisition, added.
Harry reveals details of Archie’s birth.
While Harry and Meghan have their hands full raising their children and orchestrating other career-driven projects, the start of their parenthood was quite dramatic, at least for Harry.
In his book, Spare, Harry criticized many family members and brought other aspects of his life to the spotlight, including, for example, the day his mother, Princess Diana, died in a tragic car crash.
That said, the Prince also brought some more positive memories.
In Spare, Harry described the extraordinary scene at the Portland Hospital where he decided to get high on laughing gas to calm himself down.
“But I saw two ways of enhancing my calm. One: Nando’s chicken (brought by our bodyguards). Two: A canister of laughing gas beside Meg’s bed. I took several slow, penetrating hits,” Harry wrote in his tell-all book.
“Meg was so calm. I was calm too.”
He added: “Meg, bouncing on a giant purple ball, a proven way of giving nature a push, laughed and rolled her eyes. I took several more hits, and now I was bouncing too.”
Harry then explained that a nurse tried giving his wife the gas for the pain, but he had already consumed it.
“I could see the thought slowly dawning”
“I could see the thought slowly dawning. Gracious, the husbands had it all. ‘Sorry,” I said meekly. ’”
Eventually, doctors decided to give Meghan an epidural to ease the pain.
“The anesthetist hurried in. Off went the music, and on went the lights. Whoa. Vibe change.”
Though there was an initial worry that Archie had been tangled up in his umbilical cord, he emerged unharmed – reducing both Harry and Meghan to tears.
