Missy Robertson recently provided an update and photos of her daughter Mia, who underwent cleft palate surgery in March. She also posted several photos from the Duck Dynasty family’s Easter gatherings.
Missy provided the first images of Mia after surgery. Her 14th cleft palate surgery was performed on the 17-year-old.
“What a wonderful weekend! Faith, family, and plenty of food.”
“Mia is doing fantastic! Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers! We have felt each one of them. She still has a long way to go, but she has come so far in such a short period,” she added.
“Resurrection Sunday serves as a reminder that we will one day be free of all physical suffering while continuing to live forever. What a great hope we have in Jesus!” She stated in the captions of the photographs.
Several generations of the Robertson family are shown in the photos enjoying Easter Sunday together.
Phil Robertson, the Duck Dynasty patriarch, also made a post in honor of his granddaughter.
“I met Mia today and told her, ‘Girl, you are lovely,’” Robertson wrote on Twitter. “She’s doing great, and it’s been two and a half weeks since her surgery. I appreciate everyone’s prayers.”
Mia Robertson was born with a cleft palate, an opening in the roof of her mouth. Her father recently revealed on his podcast “Unashamed” that she had undergone numerous bone graft procedures since 2012 to repair the cleft as it reopens and separates with age.
According to her father, Jase Robertson, the physicians had to break her jaws to set the lower jaw back and the upper jaw forward. Worse, according to Jase Robertson, doctors cannot give her pain medication because “she needs to keep her wits about her” if she chokes.
Medical professionals created a 3D model of Mia’s mouth and jaw following surgery. They admitted that they had succeeded in matching Missy and Jase to that model. Although Missy has stated that they are already seeing positive signs of recovery, she is expected to struggle with swelling for about a year. She will continue to see specialists for the next twelve months.
Since her operation, Missy has kept followers updated on Mia’s condition and prognosis. Much of it has been spent relaxing at home, playing cards and the piano, and lounging around.
And just when you think you’re feeling down, Robertson’s competitive nature kicks in. “I don’t care if you’re sick,” Jase recently responded to her request for card games. “I’m not going to let you win,” Missy wrote in her post.
The family established the Mia Moo Foundation to help raise “awareness and funds for treatments of cleft lip and palate.”
