Raquel Welch, 82, passed away.
According to a statement from her representative, “the iconic bombshell actress of film, television, and stage passed away quietly early this morning after a brief illness.”
“Throughout her 50-year career, she appeared in more than 30 films and 50 television shows. In recent years, the Golden Globe winner has been linked to a massively popular wig brand.”
“Raquel leaves behind her two children, daughter Tahnee Welch and son Damon Welch,” it concluded.
Welch “passed away quietly early Wednesday morning following a brief illness,” her manager Steve Sauer confirmed.
The actress died, leaving two children and a legacy in beauty, cinema, and television.
During her marriage to her high school sweetheart, James Welch, she gave birth to Damon Welch and Latanne “Tahnee” Welch.
Even though James and the actress divorced in 1972, she has been seen out with her children on occasion over the years.
Here’s everything you need to know about Welch’s children.
Welch and her then-husband, James Welch, welcomed their first child, a son named Damon Welch, on November 6, 1959. Damon has made several appearances with his mother over the years. Damon accompanied his mother to the 46th Academy Awards, which Welch hosted in April 1974. This was one of Damon’s first public appearances.
He accompanied her to several other award ceremonies and premieres, including the 39th Annual Emmy Awards in September 1987 (shown above) and the Crocodile Dundee II premiere in Hollywood in 1988.
Damon married Rebecca Trueman, the daughter of England cricketer Fred Trueman, in June 1991. Welch wore a low-cut black gown to the wedding, and several media outlets reported that Damon and Rebecca were at odds with Welch over the attire choice.
Years later, Welch’s ex-daughter-in-law clarified the situation. “Everyone gets furious because she wore a black dress that exposed her cleavage, but the reality is that she donned a lovely embroidered jacket over the outfit to enter the church,” she told the Daily Express.
“She made an effort to dress traditionally English, including a frock and jacket. “She struck me as fashionable and lovely that day,” she added. When she removed her jacket for the reception, however, everyone’s attention was drawn to her most recognizable feature—her chest.
When his mother was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1996, Damon was by her side. During the ceremony, the mother-son duo posed for a few photos while sharing an embrace.
Welch and James’ second child, Latanne “Tahnee” Welch, was born on December 26, 1961. Welch gave birth to her first child just as her career took off. Welch made her film debut in the middle of the 1960s, with breakthrough performances in Fantastic Voyage and One Million Years B.C.
Welch previously revealed to Oprah Winfrey how her early career hurt her family.
“I couldn’t always be with my children when I wanted to because I’m running around the world being Miss Sex Symbol and having this big job in cinema and everything,” she explained. Eventually, I realized this was affecting my children, which made me very sad.
She stated that she worked hard to repair her relationship with her children over time. “I’ve only recently realized how important it is for me to swim out to the wave.”
“I needed to be more assertive and keep telling them that I wanted to be a part of their lives and that I had something to offer,” she explained. Their discontent or lack of trust in me “melted away little by little.”
Tahnee later pursued modeling and acting careers, following in the footsteps of her famous mother. She was featured in several publications, including British GQ, Italian Vogue, and Vogue, and she starred in Ron Howard’s Cocoon and Cocoon: The Return.
