Specific departments on ‘Hacks’ season three have suspended work while the celebrity recovers.
Jean Smart, recovering from a recent operation, encourages people to talk to their doctors about their heart health.
In an Instagram post, the Hacks actress and Emmy winner announced she had a “successful cardiac treatment” lately. Smart explained that she chose to speak publicly about her personal health situation because it was American Heart Month.
“February is American Heart Month — a month when the country focuses on heart health — so it feels essential to share with all of you that I’m recovering from a recent, successful cardiac treatment,” she wrote.
“I am lucky to have good professional treatment and support from family and friends while I recover.”
She ended her post, which contained no additional information, with a brief plea to her supporters and readers. “Please listen to your body and see your doctor – I’m so glad I did,” she advised.
Several departments in Hacks’ third season have suspended production as Smart recovers, according to someone familiar with the situation.
“We are overjoyed that our dear Jean Smart’s heart operation was successful, and she is on the mend.
Smart’s health status was not previously known. However, she has previously discussed her health publicly, including her experience with Type 1 diabetes, even implying that it was an indirect result of that in an interview with The New Yorker.
“My mum urged that I attend college in Seattle. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when I was thirteen, and she hadn’t gotten over it by the time I was about to graduate from high school.”
“I think she was terrified for me to go to school out of state,” Smart said of her decision to join the “phenomenal theatrical program” at the University of Washington. “I can appreciate my mum and diabetes for that.”
This is not the first time Smart’s life has been disrupted by heart disease. Richard Gilliland, her husband of more than 30 years, died unexpectedly in 2021 of a cardiac problem.
