Diane Ladd, the mother of Laura Dern and a powerful actress, producer, and film director, has a lengthy career in Hollywood. Diane’s most recent assignment was starring in the Hallmark Channel drama series Chesapeake Shores. However, she fell very ill in 2018.
How is Diane doing these days? Is she still suffering from an illness? Will Diane make an appearance in the last season of Chesapeake Shores?
These are the explanations for all of your burning Diane Ladd questions.
Diane Ladd was diagnosed with pneumonia in 2018 and given six months to survive. She told Closer Weekly that her daughter, Laura Dern, reacted immediately and “cried uncontrollably, ‘You can’t die!’ I don’t have any brothers or sisters — you’re the only one I have!’”
After outliving the doctors’ predicted life expectancy, Diane stated, “But I proved the doctors incorrect by not dying. I duped them!”
Diane, who has fully recovered, claims she has no plans to retire from Hollywood anytime soon, even at 85.
“Not as long as God allows me to breathe and walk,” she explained to Closer Weekly. “I will not retire until this play is finished.”
Laura highlighted to Elle Magazine in 2021 that the family took extra steps throughout the coronavirus pandemic to protect Diane, who was vulnerable despite her pneumonia diagnosis.
She stated, “My mother suffered pneumonia and was very vulnerable regarding her lungs. So, being so protective of her was an agitated period, as it is for many of us who have a high-risk family member.”
“Watching how my children rallied in being so protective of her, watching movies and caring for one other,” Laura continued. Diane’s 86th birthday was commemorated in 2021 with a cake in bed. She posted a photo to Instagram with a lovely caption honoring her mum.
“Nothing beats waking up next to my adorable mama on her birthday, surrounded by friends and cakes! Diane, I adore you beyond words!!!!!!! I’m such a lucky daughter.”
The Hallmark Channel original drama Chesapeake Shores premiered in 2016 and is based on novelist Sherryl Woods’ novel of the same name. Abby O’Brien Winters (Meghan Ory), a divorced New York City mother of two young girls, returns to her tiny hometown of Chesapeake Shores, Maryland.
Diane Ladd plays Nell O’Brien, the grandmother of the O’Brien clan who became the family’s primary carer. Diane appears in Chesapeake Shores Season 6 on IMDB, indicating that she has not departed the program! Season 6 is the show’s final season, which premiered on August 14, 2022. Even a serious illness cannot prohibit Diane from doing what she enjoys!
