Last year, the popular Today host was absent from the show for more than a month.
Al Roker has returned to the Today Show at the start of the new year after a weeks-long absence due to a hospital stay – but to stay, he must maintain peak physical condition.
The weatherman, 68, was absent from the newsroom for over a month at the end of last year due to blood clots in his lungs and subsequent surgery.
He has provided supporters with an update on a second health condition, remaining as open as ever regarding his health.
Al informed fans that he will have to spend more time away from the Today Show – which he has been a part of for over two decades – in April owing to another operation.
In an Instagram post, the beloved meteorologist said he would soon have knee replacement surgery, allowing him to resume his regular walking routine.
Before his health deteriorated in late 2022, Al was an ardent walker, and followers could count on seeing a video update from him on his Instagram every day, speaking to the camera as he got in his daily 10,000 steps.
As his knee replacement approaches, he announced on social media that he is returning to his previous habits, revealing that he has finally surpassed his customary 10k steps.
“Yesterday was the #bestdayyet when it comes to my steps on this #bumknee before my #kneereplacementsurgery in late April,” he captioned a photo of his Apple Watch, adding, “Thanks to my #starttoday #family for the support!”
Deborah Roberts, his wife of 28 years, who has taken the best care of him during and after his health problems, endearingly warned him: “Take it slow, darling!”
Fans also praised Al in the post’s comments section, writing: “You are an inspiration!! Way to go, Al!!” and: “Al, you are an inspiration to many of us!! You bring us all joy daily!” as well as: “Al, I will be praying for you and a completely successful surgery and full recovery,” and another fan added: “You are an inspiration, Al Roker!”
