Most teenagers aspire to attend college, travel and make lots of friends. Taylor Smith, a 12-year-old from Johnson City, Tennessee, was no exception.
She enjoyed watching Doctor Who and enjoyed spending time with her loved ones. In an April 2013 letter she wrote to herself, Smith listed her objectives. To be opened by Taylor Smith on April 12, 2023, alone, was written on the letter, which was hidden in a box in her room.
Her early death was tragic for her parents, who had to deal with losing their daughter so suddenly.
Tim and Mary Ellen Smith’s lives were ruined when Mary Ellen Smith passed away from pneumonia-related complications. It’s a pity Taylor was never able to determine whether her goals and aspirations would come true.
The note was discovered by Marry Ellen’s family while sorting through her possessions. They were touched by it, so they chose to publish it online to bring solace to others.
In her response to her daughter’s letter, Marry Ellen expressed her happiness that her story has inspired others even if she was unable to be reunited with her in person.
This is the way the note goes:
“Hello, Taylor!
I hope everything is well with you and that you are enjoying yourself. I’m sorry it took me so long to write to you, but it’s still early where I am. Then congrats on finishing high school! If you are unsuccessful at first, keep trying until you graduate.
They claim that I am now attending college. But I can understand if you don’t want to be here. There are many valid reasons why we don’t want to be there. However, I do hope that everything is going well for you.
It’s incredible to imagine that Allana is now 11 years old; her birthday is today! I was born a year after her, but I was away on my first mission trip to Cranks, Kentucky, so I was unable to attend her birthday celebration this year. Just six days have passed since my return.
How is your connection with God right now, while we’re at it? Have you lately studied the Bible, prayed, worshiped, or went to serve God? If not, why not do it right away? Just get going! Jesus died for us despite the fact that he was righteous and never mistreated us.
Have you since been on any further missionary expeditions? Have you ever traveled abroad? What about flying? Do you know how Doctor Who is doing right now? But after that, you have to read some of your earlier statements! Are you now a homeowner? What are we studying if we’re at college? I’m now attempting to go into law school.
We’re getting older. Our children’s educational tablets will soon be replaced by the iPad. We could sell our present iPads and buy iPad Minis instead. There is a graphic of an iPad attached to assist the kids comprehend what we’re talking about. Keep in mind that this was written 10 years ago, and that both good and bad things have changed since then. That’s just how life is. You have to agree to it.
