After deciding not to sell two specific Pepsi items, a store owner from Athens, Alabama, made a choice that divided people’s perspectives and sparked an online discussion.
The proprietor of S&Z Grocery, Phillip Stewart, claimed he could not market products with the NFL’s logo because he disagreed.
I don’t want to support them in any way. He told WAFF, “Because I feel like it’s just wrong.” “I can’t sell the product in good conscience because it does have the logo on it,” he continued.
Steward informed his clients via a Facebook post that he would discontinue the items because he disagreed with how some NFL players insulted the flag by kneeling during the national anthem.
A number of athletes were protesting against police brutality and the way people of color are treated by kneeling during the national anthem.
Stewart understood the athletes’ contention but added, “There are other ways to deal with it.”
“This has brought attention to it, I’m sure there is good that comes from this, I just don’t agree with the tactic,” he added.
This business owner had nothing against Pepsi or the protest’s goal. Instead, he continues to market their goods, not those with the NFL emblem.
While some individuals thought Stewart’s choice was foolish, others admired him for sticking up for his beliefs.
