In an Instagram post, the Today show weather anchor’s daughter shared that she and her husband, Wesley Laga, are expecting their first child together.
Al Roker is reacting to his daughter’s big announcement.
After the Today show weather anchor’s 35-year-old daughter Courtney disclosed in an Instagram post that she and husband Wesley Laga are expecting their first child together, the 68-year-old father of three sat down with the Today show hosts to discuss becoming a grandfather.
“We’re overjoyed. It’s difficult to believe, “he stated on Wednesday’s broadcast. “That hasn’t quite sunk in yet.”
Even though he “had known for a long,” he revealed that he first learned the news through his son-in-law.
“That was accidentally dropped in a text by Wes’ brother,” he told Hoda Kotb. “Thank you, Cory.”
This will be the first grandchild for Roker. He said he already has a “grandfather name” to celebrate the new chapter.
“I guess I’m going to try for Pop-Pop in honor of my dad,” he said.
Roker has a daughter named Courtney with his ex-wife Alice Bell, whom he married from 1984 to 1994. In addition to Courtney, Roker has a son, Nick, 20, and a daughter, Leila, 24, whom he shares with his wife, Deborah Roberts.
Courtney’s ecstatic father rushed to the comments section of her Instagram post shortly after her announcement, saying, “We’re off!!! I am overjoyed!!!!! You two.” In a subsequent comment, he said, “Going for Pop-Pop.”
His 62-year-old wife also wrote a beautiful comment, “This is very exciting!!!”
Courtney and Laga will tie the knot at The Ashford Estate in New Jersey on June 4, 2021. Courtney’s younger sister Leila served as maid of honor, and many of Roker’s Today coworkers attended the wedding, including Kotb, Dylan Dreyer, Craig Melvin, and Sheinelle Jones.
Roker devoted an Instagram photo to the pair following their engagement in April 2020.
“I was waiting for the go-ahead, but now that it’s on her insta, we are overjoyed that @djweslaga asked @ouichefcourtney to marry him,” he tweeted with photographs of his daughter and Laga. “#shesaidyes I couldn’t be happier for these two.”
