Prince Harry’s acceptance of his mother’s infamous Panorama interview is just one of the bombshell discoveries about Meghan Markle’s extended family making headlines in Netflix’s Harry & Meghan. However, the documentary is more than just a severe condemnation of the royal family’s corrupt connection with the media.
It provides a close-up look into the personal lives of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. For the first time, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have released intimate pictures from their romance and footage of their family life in Montecito, California.
Despite their reluctance to parade their young children, Archie and Lilibet in front of the media, the couple is overjoyed to share these meticulously created images of their children with everyone. And aren’t Harry and Meghan’s children adorable?
In the first episode of Harry & Meghan, Prince Harry discusses the stress of growing up in public. We see frightening footage of the young prince fending off paparazzi and a staged photocall in Switzerland that goes wrong.
Princess Eugenie, who was very young at the time, tripping in the snow, being mocked, and then being forced to smile for photographers, is a compelling argument against forcing young children to serve as “working royals.”
Both Harry and Meghan acknowledge the tricky balance that must be found between safeguarding their children from exploitative situations and accepting the fact that the public is interested in the children because of their famous family.
Harry and Meghan look to be finding success with this. Most of Archie and Lilibet’s film, also known as Lili, is shot without putting the camera directly in the children’s faces.
What Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do share is the type of endearing, candid photography you’d expect to see on your friends’ locked Instagram accounts for their newborns. In reality, several photos simply show the kids from behind, giving the impression of privacy.
It is appropriate and desirable to select which photographs of your children you share with the public. And Harry and Meghan publish several previously unseen photos of their children. None of which were recorded by a paparazzo’s long-lens camera.
But my favorites were the scenes in Harry & Meghan where the kids’ emerging personalities were revealed to the world, particularly those involving Archie and Lili. Archie receives most of the spotlight in the Netflix series, even though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children make brief appearances.
The primary takeaway from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s lives is that they live in a picturesque wonderland. Beautiful sunsets, a wide range of live animals, and plenty of pastoral luxury can all be seen.
Someone who seems to enjoy this style of life truly? Archie. The description of the aforementioned sunset is the first thing we hear the young boy say in the movie. “It’s all done so wonderfully,” he says. As seen in the photograph above, Archie is commonly seen wandering up lush hills and approaching goat enclosures.
Even though they seem to be living comfortably in Archie and Lili’s home in southern California, they may not be growing up in a palace.
We must be grateful for what we have because there isn’t much Lilibet material in the first three Harry & Meghan episodes – possibly because she’s still a baby and doesn’t have much to say.
Meghan attaches Lili to herself in a carrier while fulfilling her duty as a chicken feeder. We can deduce that baby Lili enjoys doing this because there is no crying or whining.
Prince Harry reveals how Princess Diana’s legacy follows him and motivates him to leave the Royal Family in order to prevent history from repeating itself with his wife and children in Harry & Meghan.
We get to witness how Harry and Meghan are introducing the icon to their children. They show Archie a beautiful framed portrait of Princess Diana and introduce her as “Grandma Diana.” Although these children will remember her as their grandmother, we may remember her as the People’s Princess.
One of the loveliest intimate moments Harry and Meghan share with us is watching hummingbirds hover around a feeder. Little Archie hears Prince Harry warn him that they may never see hummingbirds up close again. He explains to the young child’s delight that hummingbirds usually avoid humans. The child is unimpressed. He even bobs away from view to criticize his…dirty foot.
He complains to Meghan, or “Mama,” that he spent time with her and his foot is now dirty. Meghan gently giggles at the absurdity of her small son worrying about dirt between his toes while “Papa” is amazed by hummingbirds.
Not only is this a wonderful depiction of domestic bliss, but we also learn that Meghan chose to divide the difference between US and UK mothers by referring to herself as Mama. Harry is also known as Papa.
As previously said, Harry & Meghan include far more footage of Archie than Lili, but during the opening credits sequence, the couple provides an important update on their youngest kid. Between royal family footage and photographs of young Harry and Meghan, we have a picture of the couple assisting little Lili in walking. Lilibet is camera-shy, yet she looks to be making substantial early developmental improvement off-camera.
The children of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have far more refined musical choices than the majority of parents with young children, who must endure Disney soundtracks and Baby Beluga on repeat.
Archie, at the very least, does. When Meghan demands that H serve as “DJ,” the Duke of Sussex plays “Bennie and the Jets” by Sir Elton John. We quickly learn that the song is a favorite of the couple since Archie enjoys it. Meghan thinks it’s hilarious to hear a little child sing “Bennie!” Given their close affinity, we must ask if Zoom and the rock legend ever sing along.
Through skillful editing, Harry & Meghan filmmaker Liz Garbus sneaks in one of the most heartwarming sequences in the entire documentary series: Prince Harry reading a book to Archie and Lili.
In case you missed it, the camera focuses on the famous couple’s two dogs as they are lying on their couch. If you look past the puppies, you can notice Archie sitting close to his father with Lilibet in his lap. When family members read together, they also rule together.
