In February 2023, child star Austin Majors died at the age of 27. He was best known for playing the son of Det. Andy Sipowicz on the show “NYPD Blue.” He died at a homeless facility in Los Angeles on February 11th. At the time, his cause of death was under investigation, but it was suspected that he died due to a fentanyl overdose.
Now, almost six months later, we finally known Majors’ official cause of death . According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office autopsy report, his cause of death was accidental fentanyl toxicity.
Majors acted in 48 episodes of “NYPD Blue.” The final episode he was in aired in 2004, but that was not the end of his acting career. His final acting credit was in 2009 when he was in an episode of “How I Met Your Mother.”
Unfortunately, multiple other celebrities have also died from a fentanyl overdose. These celebrities include Coolio, Tom Petty, Prince, and child actor Adam Rich.
At the time of Majors’ death, his family released a statement sharing, “Austin Majors (Setmajer-Raglin) was an artistic, brilliant, and kind human being. Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. From the time he was little, he never knew a stranger and his goal in life was to make people happy.”
Majors’ family also added details about his childhood, which was definitely more than just acting. They explained, “He grew up in a small town where he loved camping and fishing with his family and Boy Scout Troop. He loved his dog, Sunny, and the horse he grew up riding, Balla. He graduated Salutatorian in High School while being an active Eagle Scout and member of the community. He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing.”
Rest in peace.
