We were almost left without Chris Young’s music, but doctors spared his life.
In a recent Sirius XM interview, the “Famous Friends” singer discussed the near-death incident that nearly killed him. In case you missed it, Young became unwell with a leg infection in 2013 and had to go to the hospital.
“I had a minor wound on my leg that grew infected, and I didn’t know it was infected,” he explained. Young stated that when he awoke, he “didn’t feel great” and had “vision troubles.” He did, however, have a performance later that day.
“I went to board the plane anyway because we were flying to the middle of nowhere, and I told myself, ‘If I miss this trip, I’m going to miss this show.’ In mid-flight, I began to feel the worst I’d ever felt, and I was in septic shock.”
“They rushed me to the hospital. They rushed me to the intensive care unit and said, ‘We’re going to have to operate on you, but we’re not going to do it now; we’re going to do it tomorrow.’”
But, Young claims that once doctors analyzed his blood work, he was in big trouble. His blood pressure was so low at the moment that physicians felt his organ was about to fail.
Furthermore, Young claims that a doctor made a scary statement to him soon before his procedure. She left him with something he’d never forget as physicians prepared Young for surgery. “Just in case you don’t wake up, say your prayers to whatever God you believe in.”
This, however, would not be Chris Young’s only brush with mortality. In 2017, the Tennessee native was involved in another terrible incident at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. 58 people were killed when a shooter opened fire on the crowd from a neighboring hotel during the festival. Fortunately, Young was backstage for the shoot.
“It was pretty frightening,” he stated at the time. “You know, in the middle of the night, I called my mother and sister… to inform them that I am in Las Vegas. ‘Everything is OK.’ It was a moment of “always tell the ones you love how much you love ’em.”
