Michael Flatley, Lord of the Dance and Riverdance star, is currently recuperating at home after being diagnosed with cancer. On Wednesday, his team made the announcement.
The description on the Instagram post read, “Dear friends, we have something personal to tell you; Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.” The article was accompanied by a black and white photograph of Flatley standing on a beach, gazing out over the water.
“He has undergone surgery and is under the care of an exceptional team of experts,” the tweet continues. “At this time, no further remark will be offered. We just ask for your thoughts and prayers at this time. Thank you very much. The Team’s Leader.”
Many of her fans complimented the 64-year-old Irish dancer in the comments section.
“Everything I do, think of, and pray for is for you, Michael. “The entire globe is rooting for you!” One supporter commented while another said, “God bless you, Michael. I’m hoping for a quick and thorough recovery for you.”
“As a cancer survivor, the only advice I can give you is to have faith in your medical team and to keep a positive attitude. Because of all of the research, there are now a variety of brand-new medications available.” Before communicating with Flatley’s wife and child, one of Flatley’s supporters wrote a letter. “Be brave, Michael and Niamh.”
Flatley was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in 2003 when he was discovered to have malignant melanoma. This was discovered by a viewer watching him on MTV while performing.
He later confirmed to the Irish Independent that he had been successfully treated for the skin cancer, saying, “It was totally by mistake that it was brought to anyone’s attention. I hadn’t even realized it was there… It may be rather nerve-racking to be there at times.”
He mentioned this occurrence in his memoirs: “A terror like that makes you even more mindful that you need to live every minute while you can.”
