A Life of Service and Advocacy


During his presidency from 1977 to 1981, Jimmy Carter advocated for various progressive ideals, such as energy conservation and human rights. After leaving office, he founded the Carter Center in 1982. This organization has undertaken numerous humanitarian endeavors around the world.

In recognition of his dedication to disease prevention, election monitoring, and peace negotiations, Mr. Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. He has been actively involved in promoting peace and human rights as a member of The Elders, a group comprised of influential world leaders.

Bravery in the Face of Health Challenges

In 2015, Jimmy Carter faced a severe health battle when he was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to his brain and liver. Despite the grim prognosis, he courageously underwent radiation therapy and beneficial immunotherapy treatments. His cancer tests have since returned negative.

Throughout his life, even after leaving office, Jimmy Carter has remained active. He has authored over 30 books, with one being released within the last five years. He also dedicated his time to teaching Sunday school in Plains, Georgia, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity alongside his wife of 74 years, Rosalynn Carter.

A Family Legacy

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter have three sons, Jack, James III, and Donnel, and one daughter, Amy. They have also been blessed with the joy of being grandparents and great-grandparents to 13 grandchildren.

Unfortunately, in 2019, Jimmy experienced a series of falls that resulted in surgery to relieve pressure on his head caused by the trauma. Now, as he enters hospice care, he has the full support of his family and medical team in making this difficult decision.
