As the film industry continues to process the tragic news of Kirstie Alley’s demise, her coworkers and friends, many of whom she worked with throughout her illustrious career, have begun to share their memories of the late performer. Her family has revealed that the former Cheers star passed away on Monday at 71 following a battle with colon cancer.
On Monday, Alley’s Cheers co-stars Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, and Kelsey Grammer each offered words reflecting on Alley to People magazine. Even though Grammer believes that grieving the loss of a public figure is “a private concern,” he reveals that he “loved her” in his statement.
Danson reveals in his statement that in the hours before he found out about Alley’s death, he was on a plane rewatching the episode of Cheers in which she repeatedly refuses to marry Don Santry (Tom Berenger) even though her heart wants to marry him. In this scene, Don Santry is a character played by Danson. Alley reportedly delivers a “great” performance, according to Danson.
“Her ability to play a woman on the verge of a mental breakdown was both poignant and hilariously humorous,” said the critic of one of her performances. “She made me laugh when she filmed that moment 30 years ago, and she made me laugh just as hard today,” Danson says. “Just as I was getting off the plane, I was informed that Kirstie had passed away. I am inconsolably upset, but I will always be thankful for all of the times she made me laugh. I am sending all of my affection to her children. They are aware of the fact that their mother has a pure and noble heart. I am going to miss her.”
Regarding herself, Perlman reflects, “Kirstie was a one-of-a-kind individual who was also a good friend.” Her capacity for happiness knew no bounds. When she started working at Cheers, we almost immediately became friends with each other. My children adored her, and she was adored by them as well.
We had sleepovers at her house, and she organized treasure hunts for us to participate in. She had enormous parties for Halloween and Easter, and she invited the whole cast and crew of the show, along with their families. She aspired for everyone to have a sense of belonging.
She had a profound love for her children. I’ve never met someone remotely like her. I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to have known her. I’m going to really, really miss having her around.”
Many of Alley’s mourners took to social media to share their condolences and thoughts on the news of her passing. Tim Allen, who starred alongside Kirstie Alley in the film For Richer or for Poorer in 1997, took to Twitter to send his “prayers” to the actor and her family and to describe Alley as having a “beautiful sweet spirit.”
Alley’s co-star in the film “It Takes Two,” Steve Guttenberg, who played the role opposite Alley, also praised her friendliness in an Instagram comment. He fondly recalled a day when Alley brought him a tuna fish sandwich on rye to set simply because she knew it was his favorite food.
According to what Guttenberg has said, “every day she impressed me with her giving of the tangible and with her soulfulness.” “Without Kirstie, the world seems a little less full.”
John Travolta, who co-starred with Alley in the film Look Who’s Talking (1989), paid tribute to the late actor in an Instagram post. In the post, Travolta called their friendship “one of the most meaningful relationships I’ve ever had.” Alley passed away in 2016.
“Kirstie, I love you so much. “I have no doubt that we will cross paths once more,” Travolta says as he closes his statement. Sharon Stone sent her sympathies for the loss of Alley in the comments section and referred to her as “very hilarious and loving.” Alley was remembered by Sharon Stone.
Jamie Lee Curtis, who co-starred with Alley on Scream Queens, paid tribute to her co-star by posting an Instagram post in which she called Alley a “wonderful comic foil” in front of the camera and a “lovely mom bear” behind the scenes. According to Curtis, Alley assisted her in shopping for onesies for her entire family during one of the holidays.
Curtis comes to the conclusion that despite their various points of disagreement, they shared a mutual regard for one another. “Sad news.”
Jackeé Harry also demonstrated her admiration for Alley’s legacy by tweeting a statement beside a tweet Alley had previously posted in which she expressed her undying adoration for Jackeé Harry.
Kirstie Alley was an undeniable talent who offered joy to many people, both on the screen and with her warm and witty spirit, according to the words written by Harry. “Whether you agreed with her or not, Kirstie Alley was an undeniable talent who brought joy to many.” “RIP, luv. You were truly unique in every way.
