Divorces can be messy, especially when it comes to money. Kelly Clarkson experienced this firsthand after her divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. However, there’s some good news on the horizon.
Clarkson and Blackstock got married in 2013 but divorced in 2021. Since then, Clarkson has been fighting a legal battle with her ex-husband. Finally, there has been a settlement.
During their marriage, Blackstock acted as Clarkson’s manager and charged her a commission. It has now come to light that he took a significant amount of money from her. A California labor commissioner concluded that Blackstock had overcharged her in commissions. As a result, he has been instructed to return approximately $2,641,374 to the Grammy winner.
However, Blackstock is not accepting this decision without a fight. He is preparing to challenge the court’s ruling.
According to legal documents, Blackstock engaged in questionable practices by arranging jobs and making deals for Clarkson, his ex-wife. These deals included projects such as “The Voice,” Norwegian Cruise Lines, Wayfair, and the Billboard Music Awards. The labor commissioner stated that only talent agents, not managers, should be responsible for arranging jobs for their clients. While there can be exceptions, it was determined that this situation did not qualify.
Based on the court ruling, Blackstock now owes Kelly Clarkson $1,983,155.70 for her time on “The Voice,” $208,125 for her work with Norwegian Cruise Lines, $450,000 for the Wayfair deal, and $93.30 for hosting the Billboard Music Awards on three occasions.
Kelly also sought compensation for her contributions to “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” but the court ruled in favor of Blackstock in that regard.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock were married for almost seven years before she filed for divorce in the summer of 2020. The subsequent legal battle involved custody disputes over their two children, 9-year-old River Rose and 7-year-old Remington “Remy” Alexander. They also fought over ownership of their shared Montana ranch. The divorce was eventually settled in court in March 2022.
Following the separation, Kelly found solace in New York City, where she focused on rebuilding her life. Reflecting on the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, she shared, “I think COVID showed us a lot of things. Many of us had difficulties in our relationships.”
During this time, she released an album called “Chemistry,” which drew inspiration from her own experiences. Kelly informed her fans that she is content being single for now and has no plans to start dating anytime soon.
“Do I have a boyfriend? No! And not looking. You know why? I love being single,” she candidly revealed to her Instagram followers in September. She further added, “I have two kids, two dogs, three rabbits, a hamster, multiple jobs—there’s a lot going on.” Starting over can be challenging, especially when you believed you would spend the rest of your life with someone but ended up divorced.
We wish Kelly Clarkson all the best for her future endeavors. She has faced numerous legal battles in recent years, and this favorable ruling is cause for celebration among her fans.
