When Drew Barrymore partied with his daughter Nicole Richie, Lionel Richie believed she would “murder him.” On Thursday, March 30, the American Idol judge came on Drew’s talk program and reminisced his memories of the girls’ childhood in Hollywood, revealing that his side of the story is entirely different.
“Let me tell you my side of the story. You all nearly killed me. I’m delighted you got it off your chest,” the Grammy winner revealed. “I almost killed my system! Some evenings, the sheriff of so-and-so county would call and say, ‘We have Nicole here.’ ‘What did she do now?’ I’d ask. ‘She went down the wrong way on the motorway,’ they said.”
Nicole, Drew, and Paris Hilton were well-known party girls in the early to mid-2000s.
“We’re part of this little lady wolf pack,” Drew continued, explaining, “Nicole and I have found out how to have so much fun and then pull it together and be amazing moms.”
“I have no idea how that happened,” Lionel replied. “Because Nicole and Paris, when they first started […] if I can survive through that, I can live through anything.”
Lionel is getting ready to go on tour with Earth, Wind, and Fire, and when Drew asks for tickets, Lionel jokes: “Nicole and Drew are like one huge ham sandwich. I’m not sure how I’m going to handle that.”
Of course, both girls have matured since their wild days. Nicole and Joel Madden welcomed their daughter Harlow in 2008. Sparrow was born in September 2009 to the couple, who married in December 2010.
Drew has two kids, Olive, 10, and Frankie, eight, with her now ex-husband Will Kopelman, while Paris had her son Phoenix with Carter Reum earlier in 2023.
