Tom Selleck and Larry Manetti, original Magnum P.I. co-stars, are reunited for an upcoming episode of Selleck’s CBS drama series Blue Bloods.
Except for a one-off episode of Las Vegas in 2007, this is the first time the duo will appear onscreen together since Magnum P.I. ended in 1988.
“It’s a small Magnum PI reunion, on the set of #BlueBloods this week, with guest star Larry Manetti & Tom Selleck — together again,” Blue Bloods’ Donnie Wahlberg tweeted. “Wishing the late greats Roger E Mosley and John Hillerman were also here.”
The shot also includes current Blue Bloods cast members Bridget Moynahan, Andrew Terraciano, Will Estes, and Vanessa Ray.
Manetti, who played Orville “Rick” Wright to Selleck’s titular private investigator on Magnum P.I. from 1980 to 1988, featured in programs such as Walker, Texas Ranger, and JAG, as well as reboots of Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I.
The 13th season of Blue Bloods stars Selleck as New York Police Commissioner and family patriarch Frank Reagan.
Blue Bloods is still one of CBS’s top scripted shows and a staple of the network’s formidable Friday lineup. According to Deadline, the cop drama is in active renewal talks, and the network hopes to bring it back for Season 14.
It has been a moneymaker for CBS Studios, with great performance on CBS, where it has been staying stable year after year and even adding a few eyeballs in syndication and worldwide.
