Mick Jagger has spoken out about the death of his longtime companion L’Wren Scott.
The Rolling Stones’ lead singer has delivered a deep and mournful letter in response to the tragic death of a 49-year-old fashion designer who was discovered dead in her New York City apartment after committing suicide.
“I am still struggling to understand how my best friend could take her life in such a horrendous way,” Jagger wrote on his Facebook page. The remark was accompanied by a lovely photograph of his late wife.
“We had a wonderful life together and built a wonderful life for ourselves after spending many years together.”
He remarked that she had a powerful presence and that many people, including himself, admired her talent. “The sincere emails of support and condolence that I have received and the genuine tributes that others have paid to her have impacted me deeply. I’ll never be able to forget her.”
Jagger’s announcement came just hours after it was revealed that the Rolling Stones would not be appearing on the first date of their Australian tour this week. The band is scheduled to perform in Sydney, Melbourne, and Macedon later this month.
Scott’s body was discovered in her New York City apartment on Monday morning. According to a representative for Jagger, the singer was “completely stunned and appalled” by the news of Scott’s apparent suicide after receiving the dreadful news.
Jagger and Scott had been dating for 13 years until her death.
