As the film industry grieves for Kirstie Alley, her friends and coworkers—many of whom she collaborated with throughout her illustrious career—have started to express their memories of the late actress. The former Cheers star passed away on Monday at the age of 71 following a battle with colon cancer, according to her family.
The co-stars of Alley’s Cheers, Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, and Kelsey Grammer, each discussed Alley on Monday. Grammer acknowledges in his statement that he “loved her,” despite his conviction that mourning the loss of a famous person is a “private problem.”
In his statement, Danson claims that he was rewatching a Cheers episode when Alley repeatedly declines to wed Don Santry (Tom Berenger), despite having her heart set on it, when he learned of her passing.
Don Santry is portrayed by Danson in this scene. Alley performs “excellently,” according to Danson.
A critic praised one of her performances, saying, “Her ability to represent a woman on the verge of a mental collapse was both heartbreaking and brilliantly amusing.” When she captured that scene on film 30 years ago, Danson says, “She made me laugh, and she made me laugh just as hard today.”
“I only learned about Kirstie’s passing as I was stepping off the plane. Although I am devastated by her passing, I will always be appreciative of the many times she made me laugh. Her children have my undivided love. They are aware of their mother’s enormous heart and purity. I’ll really miss her when she leaves.
“Kirstie was a one-of-a-kind person who was also a terrific friend,” recalls Perlman of her. She had boundless joy in her. Almost immediately after she started working at Cheers, we become close. She loved my kids just as much as she loved them.
“When we had sleepovers at her house, she created treasure hunts for us to participate in. The whole cast and crew of the programme, as well as their families, were invited to her lavish Halloween and Easter celebrations. She wanted everyone to feel like they belonged. She had a strong love for her kids. I’ve never met somebody even remotely like her. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the chance to know her. I’ll really miss having her around.
After Alley passed away, many of her mourners took to social media to share their condolences and memories. Steve Guttenberg, who played Kirstie Alley’s co-star in the movie “It Takes Two,” praised the actress’ friendliness in an Instagram comment. Tim Allen, who co-starred with Kirstie Alley in the 1997 film For Richer or Poorer, expressed his “prayers” to the actor and her family on Twitter. Alley was described as having a “wonderful gentle spirit.” He recalled Alley bringing him a tuna fish sandwich on rye to set as she was aware of his preference for that dish.
The world “looks a little less full without Kirstie,” said Guttenberg, “every day she impressed me with her offering of the tangible and with her soulfulness.”
John Travolta, who featured alongside Alley in the 1989 movie Look Who’s Talking, paid tribute to the late actor in an Instagram post. In the article, Travolta called their friendship “one of the most deep friendships I’ve ever had.”
I have no doubt that we will meet paths again, Travolta says, “I have no doubt that I love you so much, Kirstie.” In the comments section, Sharon Stone expressed her sympathies for Alley’s passing and described her as “very hilarious and amazing.”
Alley and Jamie Lee Curtis co-starred in the horror film Scream Queens. On Instagram, Jamie Lee Curtis paid tribute to Alley, calling her a “great comic foil” in front of the camera and a “beautiful mom bear” in the background. Curtis claimed that Alley assisted her during one of the holidays when she went shopping for onesies for her entire family.
Curtis comes to the conclusion that despite their various differences, they respected one another. It’s regrettable.
By publishing a message beside a tweet Alley had previously written expressing her unwavering love for Jackeé Harry, Jackeé Harry also shown her appreciation for Alley’s legacy.
“Kirstie Alley was an incredible talent who brought joy to many people, both on screen and with her lovely and witty spirit,” claims Harry. Whether you agreed with her views or not, Kirstie Alley was a superb talent who brought joy to many. Luv, rest in peace. You were undoubtedly unique in every way.
