The family of Paul Grant, best known for his performances in the “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars” franchises, confirmed the actor’s death on March 20 at 56. Sky News said Paul collapsed outside London’s Kings Cross station on March 16.
His daughter, Sophie Jayne Grant, told the publication that her father remained in the hospital until he died early on March 20.
“I’m devastated… No girl deserves to have their father taken away,” Sophie told the publication. “He was well-known and well-liked. He left us far too soon.”
Paul is most known for his role as a lovable Ewok in 1983’s “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.” As one of the goblins who controlled Gringott’s Wizarding Bank in 2001’s “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” he was responsible for another classic sequence. Paul was also a stuntman in the 1980s films “Willow,” “Labyrinth,” and “Legend.”
Paul’s family and followers are mourning after the sad news of his death.
Paul Grant had a full life after quitting the film industry following his final appearance in “Harry Potter.” His wife, three children, stepchildren, and grandkids survive him. Supporters of Grant, as well as fans of ’80s cinema in general, rushed to social media to reminisce about his roles that have endured in pop culture.
“Rest in peace, Paul Grant,” one Twitter user commented. “Thank you for what you’ve done for the Star Wars franchise and the entertainment business. You will be sorely missed.” According to another user, “He was an excellent performer. May his soul rest in peace.”
Before his death, the stuntman was candid about his former drug and alcohol difficulties, but he always had a positive attitude toward life. A YouTuber interviewed Grant about his life off the big screen just weeks before he was discovered at King’s Cross station.
“I had money but squandered it,” he confessed to the camera. “Hey, I’ve had a good life. You only get one life, don’t you?” Rest in peace, and our hearts go out to Grant’s family.
