Prince Harry has lost all contact with his UK family members. After the many attacks on the royals, he and his brother, Prince William, are not speaking at all, and his relationship with his father, King Charles, is also down the drain.
The Duke has reportedly wanted to make amends with his family, but not until he receives an apology from them regarding how he and Meghan Markle were treated while still a part of the Firm.
Harry has been back in the UK on several occasions in the last year, although it hasn’t been for long. He met his father briefly after Charles was diagnosed with cancer, but other than that, no meetings have occurred. Still, Harry is said to want to bury the hatchet. But according to a royal expert, that might not be the case.
The feud between the royals and Harry and Meghan peaked when Harry released his book, Spare, earlier this year. The Duke lashed out at almost every senior royal family member, referring to his stepmother Camilla as a “wicked stepmother” and even giving a detailed insight into one of the biggest fights of his life.
Prince Harry revealed details of physical confrontation with William in ‘Spare’
It happened in 2019 at his London home, where Harry wrote that he and William had a physical confrontation. The Duke claimed William had called his wife, Meghan, “abrasive,” “rude,” and “difficult,” something Harry called “parroting the press narrative.”
It escalated, and Harry described how William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor.”
“He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out,” Harry wrote.
The Duke then described how William urged him to hit back, describing their fights as children. When Harry refused, the future king left before returning later “looking regretful, and apologized.” Harry said he sustained visible injuries on his back.
The royal family has not commented on the shocking claim – along with everything else Harry and Meghan have said. It’s safe to say it will most likely stay that way.
At the time, King Charles wasn’t there. However, a few years later, following Prince Philip’s funeral in 2021, Harry, William, and Charles had a meeting at Frogmore Cottage that didn’t end well.
“Please, boys, don’t make my final years a misery.”
In Spare, Harry wrote that his family members have “come for a fight” as they try to reconcile with him. The Duke said the least they wanted was to understand why they had left the royal family in the first place.
“I tried to explain my side of things. I wasn’t at my best. For starters. I was still nervous, fighting to keep my emotions in check, while also striving to be succinct and precise,” Harry wrote. “More, I’d vowed not to let this encounter devolve into another argument. But I quickly discovered that it wasn’t up to me.”
But, as previously mentioned, it didn’t end well. Before the main subject was to be discussed – when King Charles asked about the weather and the funeral – Harry felt he was cut off whenever he wanted to speak. Eventually, the two brothers got “heated,” and their father had to step in.
Harry recalled Charles “looking up at our flushed faces,” saying, “please, boys, don’t make my final years a misery.”
One can imagine that King Charles was furious about what Harry revealed – and accused them of – in his book. Meanwhile, the monarch would not stand there and receive all the criticism he got from Harry, and within days of the book being released, he had made up his mind.
In March, just two months after Harry’s book was released, the world heard King Charles evicted Harry and Meghan from their UK base at Frogmore Cottage.
King Charles evicted Harry & Meghan from Frogmore Cottage
After the couple moved into Frogmore, they renovated the royal estate for around $3 million. When they stepped down from their royal roles, Harry and Meghan agreed to pay back the entire price tag to UK taxpayers. They were still allowed to keep Frogmore Cottage as their UK base when visiting, but that has changed.
According to reports, Charles made his mind up about the future of the property just one day after Harry’s book, Spare, was released.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan confirmed that they had been evicted from Frogmore Cottage. Meanwhile, reports suggested that the Duke and Duchess were unhappy.
Sources close to Prince Harry and Meghan claimed the couple were “stunned” by the decision.
“Harry and Meghan have until early summer to vacate,” a source told Omar Scobie, reporting for Yahoo at the time. “Initially, they were given just weeks, but now they have at least until after the coronation.”
“It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment,” a friend of Harry and Meghan’s added. “It’s like [the family] wants to cut them out of the picture for good.”
Little is known about Harry’s friendships in the US. Sure, he plays polo with some pals occasionally, but other than that, the finer details of who he spends his time with when he’s not with his family remain unclear.
“Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK”
According to Tom Quinn, Harry misses his army and college friends dearly. Sadly, they haven’t visited him in California because “they don’t get on with Meghan.” As a result, it’s been reported that the Duke is now looking for a “permanent” home in the UK.
“As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles,” Quinn claimed.
He added, “He misses his Old Etonian and army friends, many of whom have not visited as they don’t get on with Meghan. Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK, which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security.”
While Harry and Meghan are trying to avoid royal controversies, they have created some on their own in the US. The last one just happened, and it involved Harry accepting an award.
Harry received the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2024 ESPY Awards.
Prince Harry labeled “controversial and divisive” after accepting an award
ESPY said Harry was honored for his “tireless work in making a positive impact for the veteran community through the power of sport” with the Invictus Games he created years ago. The award has previously been given to unsung heroes – but the fact that Prince Harry got it this year doesn’t sit well with everyone.
Pat Tillman was a US soldier killed in Afghanistan, for whom the award has been named. Now, his mother, Mary, criticizes Harry for getting it in the first place.
“I am shocked as to why they would select such a controversial and divisive individual to receive the award. Some recipients are far more fitting. There are individuals working in the veteran community that are doing tremendous things to assist veterans,” she told the Daily Mail.
“These individuals do not have the money, resources, connections or privilege that Prince Harry has. I feel that those types of individuals should be recognised.”
A spokesman for ESPY answered, ‘”While we understand not everyone will agree with all honourees selected for any award, The Invictus Games Foundation does incredible work, and ESPN believes this is a cause worth celebrating.”
Harry and Meghan have not gotten the popularity they wanted as they left the royal family and began a new life in the US. It’s safe to say their popularity has plummeted in the UK, but sadly, that also appears to be the case in the US.
“They do not look kindly upon Harry and Meghan”
Speaking on GB News, royal commentator Nile Gardiner said that the sussexes are increasingly unpopular in the United States.”
“Harry and Meghan are viewed as selfish, narcissistic individuals who have launched attack after attack upon their own family and have, you know, trashed the royal family,” Gardiner said. “The Americans are very pro the British monarchy.”
He continued, “She was right to attack this award. And there’s already a big online petition calling for the prize not to be given to Prince Harry. I think that this is an illustration as well that Harry and Meghan’s narcissism does not go down very well in the United States and America.”
“Most American people really love the Royal Family, okay. They do not look kindly upon Harry and Meghan trashing them in the United States and does not go down very well,” Gardiner concluded.
It is yet to be known if Harry and Meghan Markle will ever make amends with their British family. According to reports, the fact that Harry is looking for a permanent home in the UK might make it easier to reconnect and try to mend the relationship with his father and brother at first.
The Duke has been visiting the UK several times over the last few years, but except for a short meeting with his father following Charles’ cancer diagnosis, he has not taken the time to meet his family members.
Prince Harry has ‘no interest in making amends’ with royal family, expert claims
According to royal expert Jennie Bond, that could give an insight into what aArry really wants. Speaking with OK! Bond claimed that the estranged former royal might not be interested in making amends.
“If Harry had really wanted to confront his family and patch things up, he would surely have allotted more time to his recent visits so that his father – at least – could make arrangements to see him,” Jennie Bond said.
“I don’t think there’s any chance of William wanting to do so, particularly with all he has on his plate right now,” Bond said of the brothers possibly burying the hatchet.
“So, I’ll believe this when I see it, but it will be lovely if he could indeed spend some time, perhaps at Balmoral, during the summer and make peace with his father.”
