The Queen Consort is bereaved over the death of a close friend, Paul O’Grady.
The comedian and TV host died at 67, and the Queen Consort is claimed to be “very devastated” by his death.
The two had collaborated closely to assist the operations of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Camilla will miss his “warm heart and contagious humor,” which “lit up so many lives.”
Paul died “unexpectedly but quietly,” according to his husband, Andre Portasio.
“It is with deep regret that I notify you that Paul died abruptly but peacefully yesterday evening,” Mr. Portasio added. “His loved ones, friends, family, animals, and all those who cherished his wit, humor, and compassion will miss him immensely.”
“I’m sure he’d want me to thank you for all the love you’ve shown him throughout the years.”
Paul rose to prominence in the 1990s as the legendary scouse drag queen Lily Savage and went on to host the game show Blankety Blank and other light entertainment shows.
Later in his career, he went on to host various chat shows and bring his love of dogs to the screen, which is how he met Camilla.
The royal is the patron of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and previously appeared on Paul O’Grady: For The Love of Dogs, where fans got to experience the loveliest moment between Camilla and her dog Beth…
Paul previously stated about their unexpected friendship: “Camilla is a genuinely funny woman; you can laugh well with her without feeling awkward. Everyone is usually surprised when I get a big hug and kiss from her.”
Paul then commented, announcing her presence on his TV show: “A nice person who is crazy with dogs.” There was a contest to determine which dog would run straight to their owner, ignoring the food, squeaky toys, and other distractions.
“The Duchess’s dog ran right to her, rejecting the temptation placed in her path, while Sausage [Paul’s dog] walked straight for the press and cameras, clearly more interested in building her profile and posing for the paps. A terrific day and the episode will be aired later this year.”
