Regina King paid tribute to her son and referred to him as her “guiding light” in an emotional statement delivered on the first anniversary of his death, Ian Alexander Jr.
The tragic death of the Seven Seconds actress’s partner on January 19, 2022, left her in absolute sadness, and in her first social media post since his death, she explained the stages of grief.
She shared a video of a paper lantern flying through the air with the comment, “January 19th is Ian’s Workday. While we are still adjusting to his physical absence, we are grateful that he is still with us.”
“Ian, like the rest of us, lives in a separate area of the planet. His spirit is the glue that holds us all together. Your favorite color is orange… It is both chaotic and peaceful. I can sense your presence in the air I breathe. The fact that I am Regina, the mother of Ian, who would later become Regina, is the aspect of myself that I am most proud of. I ask that you, my guiding light, continue to shine brightly.”
Regina stated, “Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of Ian, who died by his hand at age 26. He was a shining example of kindness and compassion, always concerned about the well-being of those around him. Our family begs you to treat us with the utmost respect during this extremely private time. Thank you very much.”
Her son Ian was the only child she ever had, and she named him after her ex-husband, record producer Ian Alexander Sr.
He was a deejay and had been one since he was a child, following in the footsteps of his musician father.
Regina acknowledged that being a single parent was challenging, but she stated that having Ian as her child was her greatest joy and best achievement.
The mother and son duo wore matching tattoos proclaiming “unconditional love” in Aramaic lettering.
They had an unshakable bond, and Ian had nothing but respect for his famous mother. They frequently made red-carpet appearances, and he raved to E! News about how amazing it was when they attended the 2019 Golden Globes together.
“She is the epitome of a wonderful mother. She doesn’t let anything like a hard day at work or anything else come back and destroy our time together. It’s great that I have a mother with whom I can enjoy spending time. It’s a blessing.”
