She felt bloated and went to the hospital.

Cristina Bordianu has a very special story. She managed to survive and even overcome ovarian cancer, despite the fact that the disease was detected when she was already at an advanced stage.

The woman tells with tears in her eyes what she went through before she found out about the disease, but also after she was diagnosed.

Cristina Bordianu found out that she suffers from ovarian cancer at the age of 43, after a very long period of time she went through the offices of many doctors and did a lot of tests.

She says that she did all the tests that were recommended to her by both the family doctor and the specialists, but she didn’t seem to have anything.

“The first symptoms are easy to confuse. I was bloating and had pain in my upper abdomen.

I was suspected of having some colon problems or an enlarged spleen. I had several ultrasounds and they told me that I really had an enlarged spleen. Only the spleen was enlarged because she was covering the tumor, not for other reasons. And I didn’t know that “, Cristina Bordianu told us.

After several treatments and tests, when the symptoms worsened, Cristina, who was already a mother, went to the emergency room at Municipal hospital. At Triaj, where the medical staff has to direct the patients to the ward they need, she was told that she was definitely pregnant.

“I went to the emergency room because I was already very swollen and I couldn’t even breathe. First, they told me I was pregnant. I was already a mother, I knew what a pregnancy meant.

Plus, from a pregnancy, you swell the way I did after months, not in a single month as I did.

But they insisted, they even told me how the child is sitting, that he is on his feet up and from there, and the pressure that wouldn’t let me breathe. I told them it was impossible, they told me

that I don’t want to admit my pregnancy. As if it was a shame for me to be pregnant “, Cristina Bordianu also said.

When I found out the diagnosis, I forgot the way home

In the end, after going through more than embarrassing moments and being treated as if she had done something shameful and did not want to admit it, Cristina was subjected to a more detailed analysis.

“It was only then that they discovered that I was swollen due to a large amount of fluid that had accumulated. Of course, there was no pregnancy and this was clear on ultrasound. That’s when they first diagnosed me.

I still don’t know where I got out of the hospital. I called my son because he didn’t know about me anymore. I felt that there was a huge pit in front of me and I would fall into it. That I have no escape.

My son asked me where I was, but in my condition, I could only tell him that at the Municipal. I didn’t know where I went out, where I took her, where I am “, says Cristina with tears in her eyes, remembering the terrible moments she went through.

The first chemotherapy session was a nightmare

After the experience at the Municipal Hospital, Cristina Bordianu decided to continue the investigations at Polizu, where she came across the doctors who saved her life.

“At the first transvaginal ultrasound, it was really clear what I had. Then a CT scan followed. The diagnosis was shocking. I was already in an advanced stage, it was very serious. ”

Immediately after receiving confirmation of the severe diagnosis, Cristina Bordianu was scheduled for surgery. The surgery was a success, but then two difficult years followed in which she was treated with cytostatics.

“The first meeting was a nightmare. I felt like I couldn’t breathe bone pain anymore. I had pain in my little finger and toes.

There was nothing in my body that didn’t hurt terribly. It wasn’t until the second session that it got better, the body was probably trying to adapt slowly.

It’s been a very difficult two years. There are so many things to pay attention to during this time, it’s not easy, there are other effects that you endure and that you have to take care of.

I was lucky that I didn’t lose my mind during this period and I had the strength to fight all this.

Now I am much better, the tests came out good for me, but I am still following the treatment prescribed by a doctor.

At some point I will get rid of this treatment “, says Cristiana Bordianu really optimistic, convinced that after she managed to overcome this cruel disease she will still be able to enjoy a normal life

About ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is one of the most severe types of cancer, with the lowest survival rate of all female cancers.

Annually, 250,000 women worldwide are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and, in addition, 140,000 women worldwide die annually from this disease.

Statistics show that only 45% of women with ovarian cancer live more than five years after diagnosis, while 89%, almost double the percentage of breast cancer patients live at the same age period after diagnosis.

The biggest problem associated with ovarian cancer is that many women are diagnosed in advanced stages of the disease when it is already becoming much more difficult to treat.

Most of the time, cancer is not diagnosed because the symptoms are associated with other, less serious conditions, such as gastrointestinal problems.

Ovarian cancer can be detected by:

1. abdominal or transvaginal ultrasound;

2. computed tomography or MRI;

3. blood test to measure the tumor marker;

4. laparotomy or laparoscopy – surgical procedures for collecting a sample of tumor tissue;

5. biopsy
