Lisa Marie Presley’s mother, Priscilla Presley, confirmed her daughter’s death on January 12. “I am saddened to inform you that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has died. She was the fieriest, most powerful, and loving woman I’d ever known,” Priscilla told People.
“We seek discretion as we work to grieve this devastating loss. “I appreciate your prayers and love.” Lisa Marie had a heart attack and died on the way to the hospital.
Benjamin Keough, who died tragically in 2020, was the child of Lisa Marie’s first marriage to Danny Keough. Finley and Harper Lockwood were her fourth ex-husband, Michael Lockwood’s twins. Riley, in particular, has spoken up about what it was like growing up with a rock ‘n’ roll mom, but Lisa Marie’s children have yet to speak out about her death. But how did they interact as mother and daughter?
Riley Keough has admitted that her mother made a point of not raising her in the spotlight despite being from one of the world’s most famous families—after all, Lisa Marie Presley is Elvis Presley’s daughter. “I don’t want you to be another famous Hollywood daughter,” she explained. She was completely uninterested in that way of life. “She wasn’t paying attention to that, ” Riley acknowledged to Nylon in 2016. “It had shown up. We’d be photographed doing things, but I wasn’t 15 when I saw my first tabloid.”
And it appears that they remained close throughout Lisa Marie’s life. Riley, a talented actress in her own right who has been in films such as “Magic Mike,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and “Daisy Jones & The Six,” opened out to People just a few days before her mother died. “My mother is undeniably an influence to me,” she said of Lisa Marie, whom she described as “a tremendously powerful, brilliant woman.” Riley also described her mother’s parenting style, telling the publication, “I grew up with a person that pursued their way without much regard for what others might say. She was an inspiration to me.”
Lisa Marie Presley’s biggest success in life was becoming a mother. She gladly shared her motherhood experience with ABC News in 2004, telling the media, “Everything’s better when you have children.”
“Even if you’re an adult, no matter what’s happening, they’re always there, so whatever they’re going through, you go through it with them as well,” she said. “They act as your anchor, pushing you to abandon your identity and focus solely on them, which is fantastic. Oh, everything is fantastic.”
Lisa Marie Presley discussed how she always attempted to protect Riley Keough from the expectations that come with being the kid of a superstar when she and Riley appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” together in 2007. “I didn’t want her to have that shadow of competitiveness and intimidation,” Lisa Marie explained. “I wanted [my kids] to be able to do whatever they wanted,” she stated.
It’s no wonder, then, that Lisa Marie has always been supportive of Riley’s career, even if the actress admitted that, as a wealthy child from a highly famous family, she has offered Riley some fairly harsh advice. “Whatever you do, you have to work hard, or you won’t be taken seriously,” Lisa Marie allegedly told Riley.
Riley Keough and Lisa Marie Presley remained close friends until Lisa Marie Presley’s death. They use the last few months of Lisa Marie’s career to advertise the 2022 film “Elvis,” starring Austin Butler as Lisa Marie’s renowned father, Elvis Presley.
The mother-daughter duo gave several interviews while acting as close as they could, with Lisa Marie discussing her late father and how the film honored his memory. Riley was born 12 years after Elvis died in 1997. “It was such an emotional [event]. Lisa Marie said on “Positive Morning America” alongside Riley, “It just brings up such generational trauma — in a good way “2022 June.” Riley declared, “I’m finished,” after only five minutes. “I was sobbing, and she was already crying.”
The Presleys then arrived in Hollywood for the film’s premiere, where Lisa Marie, Riley, Priscilla, Finley, and Harper Lockwood posed for photos on the red carpet beside one another. Riley also shared sweet photos from a Graceland premiere on Instagram, revealing how close this celebrity family truly is.
