As a result of actress Victoria Principal’s renowned portrayal of Pamela Barnes Ewing in Dallas, the show went on to become one of the most popular primetime soap operas in television history.
Victoria was born on January 3, 1950, in Japan. Her father was a United States Air Force Sergeant stationed in Fukuoka at the time of her birth, and she spent her first few months of life there. Due to her family’s frequent moves, Victoria attended 17 different schools during her formative years.
At the age of five, she made her first appearance in a television commercial; at the time, she had no notion that acting would become her profession.
There are claims that her upbringing wasn’t a happy one for her. Her troubled relationship with her mother was the reason for this. In a 2012 interview with Huffington Post, the actress said, “I wish I had known my childhood would end. It was also said that she said, “I felt really fortunate,” at one point. I was brought up by my parents in such a way that I was never made aware of my lack of equality.
Victoria made the decision to become a doctor when it came time to choose a career, and she was well on her way to achieving her goal.
Victoria, however, was seriously hurt in a car accident right before she was about to finish her first year of college. She had to take some time off to recover, which meant she missed a lot of college classes and had to restart from scratch. She wasn’t in the mood to do it right then.
She played Roy Bean’s mistress in Paul Newman’s The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, one of her earliest film performances. For this performance, she received a Golden Globe nomination for best newcomer.
Victoria moved on and became a talent agent after discovering that acting was time-consuming and demanding as she received more offers.
But around two years later, she was given the role of Pamela Barnes Ewing.
She recalled, “I had quit acting to work as an agent and was off to law school when a friend dropped off a Dallas script, so I read it. After I was done, I became aware of a change in my life. I informed [casting] that I was sending someone in over the phone.
Who, she questioned. Just enter my name, I requested. It will be a welcome surprise. And I showed up by myself, which was unanticipated! “I put in my own application!”
The success of the series led to Victoria being placed on a pedestal. When Dallas debuted, she was 28 years old. Among other awards, she received nominations for a Golden Globe and two Soap Opera Digest Awards.
Victoria eventually left the show in 1987. There were several explanations for why she resigned. “It required a lot of work to keep Pam Ewing and Victoria Principal apart. In 1987, she declared to the New York Times that continuing with the program would “definitely seal my fate in the profession.”
In her lifetime, Victoria was married twice. Both of her first and second marriages broke up. She is very close to her second husband’s son and daughter from a previous marriage despite not having any of her own.
When she moved away from Dallas, she founded Principal Secret, a skincare company that has since become a $1.5 billion a year empire. Sources estimate the actress’s net worth to be $350 million.
After years as the CEO of the business, she did choose to step down and concentrate on her nonprofit, The Victoria Principal Foundation for Thoughtful Existence. “I’m still wholly committed to developing my skincare business, Principal Secret. We will soon be in our 27th year of business. In a 2018 interview with TV Insider, she added, “And I’ll never forget how Dallas helped me achieve so many of my ambitions.”
The actress, who is 72 years old, nevertheless has a youthful beauty and attractiveness about her. She uses social media extensively, posting pictures of herself and the animals she helps as well as old ones from the time she was filming the program that permanently changed her life.
