David Muir is devastated by the death of Barbara Walters, who was 93 years old when she died.
The legendary ABC News fellow anchor, who has served as an inspiration to generations of women all throughout the world, was honored by one of the network’s most notable newscasters.
Following Barbara’s death, David posted a moving tribute to her on Instagram, along with a photo of the two of them laughing and holding hands while out together.
“So frequently we toss around the terms – icon, legend, trailblazer – yet Barbara Walters was all of these – and perhaps above all, Barbara Walters was courageous,” he said.
“She was a trailblazer for so many others; we received wisdom from her, and to this day we continue to be in awe of her,” David added. ” Barbara, rest in peace.”
Deborah Roberts, an ABC journalist, was among the first to comment, adding, “That is quite correct.”
“Honored to have worked beside her,” GMA’s Lara Spencer said, adding that she was “so sad to hear the news. Barbara was a one-of-a-kind person. #legend”
The following are comments put in by David fans expressing their sadness at the news: “I am grateful that you shared your experiences and opinions about Barbara. She was blessed to have you as a friend and coworker,” one person tweeted, while another said, “Rest in peace, Barbara Walters. I loved both the reporting and the difficult questions. I admire how you started the View by providing a diversity of opinions and sparking excellent debate.”
Barbara Walters died without suffering in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by family and friends, according to a statement released on Friday by Barbara’s spokeswoman, Cindi Berger. “She has no regrets about the way she lived her life. She paved the way not only for other female journalists, but for all women in general.”
She was not just the first female co-host of a US news program, but also the first female primetime network news anchor. She accomplished this by rising through the ranks of a predominantly male-dominated profession.
Her annual salary with ABC was $1 million at the time, catapulting her to the level of media superstar. She decided to retire from acting in 2014.
When she was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2000, she expressed her thanks by saying, “I have been given with a life I never expected.”
