Jamie Foxx is currently thinking about his sister DeOndra Dixon.
The Oscar winner’s younger sister died at the age of 36. Foxx, now 54, paid tribute to his mom on Instagram on Wednesday, posting a sequence of flashback photos of her. “Deondra, I know you’re in heaven making everyone laugh… and have everyone dancing to your music,” he said in the post.
“I can’t tell you how much I miss you, but I know your soul is shining brilliantly wherever you are,” he said. I will always love you.”
When Foxx announced Dixon’s death to the public, he stated in his post that “she will always be alive” to him.
“My lovely and sweet sister, Deondra, has died. The transition has left me with a million pieces of my heart crushed. I use the term transitioned because she will still exist in some form,” he wrote at the time. “Anyone who had the privilege of knowing my sister knew she shone like a beacon…
I can’t tell you how many times she’s gotten on the dance floor and stolen the show… even giving her lover @chrisbrownofficial a run for his money. I can’t tell you how many parties we’ve had at our house.”
“Although I am in terrible agony, I can smile when I think about all of the lovely memories she left behind for me, my family, and her friends. Although I know she is now dancing with her wings in heaven, my pain is indescribable.”
“She has been an inspiration to all of us, from performing dance moves in the “Blame It” music video to doing so on the Grammys, and becoming the spokesperson for @globaldownsyndrome… from sliding down my stairs with a smile as broad as the Rio Grand… to serenading us with all of her songs,” he concluded.
Foxx thanked Deondra in a letter, stating, “Deondra, you have left a hole in my heart… But I’ll replace it with all of the memories you’ve given me.” “I adore you with all of my heart… Our family has been destroyed, but with your help, we will reassemble the parts… Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Dixon received the designation of Ambassador from the Global Down Syndrome Foundation in 2011. At the time, she told People magazine that she was “happy to have a big brother to lean on” and that she loved Jamie Foxx “every day.”
