Lance Reddick, who starred in The Wire and John Wick, has died. He was 60.
His spokesperson at Portrait PR confirmed the news, stating that he died naturally. The actor was doing a promotion for John Wick 4 with Keanu Reeves this week.
Lance attended Yale School of Drama with Angela Bassett in the early 1980s but rose to prominence in the 2000s as Cedric Daniels on The Wire for five seasons.
Lance played Daniels, a police officer who rises through the ranks from lieutenant to major to the commissioner.
He went on to star in cult TV shows such as Fringe as Phillip Broyles and Bosch as Chief Irvin Irving.
In 2014, he co-starred with Keanu Reeves in the first John Wick film as Charon, a New York hotel concierge, and has since appeared in all three sequels.
The fourth film will be released on March 24, 2023.
Lance was also cast as the Greek god Zeus in the upcoming series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a Disney+ adaptation of the same-named book series, alongside Jessica Parker Kennedy and Walker Scobell.
Lance was a major animal lover with four dogs; his last social media posts were in tribute.
“Unsurprisingly, I enjoy treating my pets both on and off the screen. @officialhardrock makes things simple by offering a full range of @johnwickmovie dog apparel at @hardrockhotels “He captioned an Instagram photo of himself surrounded by four puppies.
“Unleashed locations and a special #NationalPuppyDay event to benefit @animalleague at @hardrockhotelnyc. For more information, read my narrative.”
His most recent tweet included a video of his dogs barking, and he joked, “And the beat continues… #dogsoftwitter,” as he looked into the camera.
Lance is survived by his wife, Stephanie Reddick, as well as their daughters Yvonne and Christopher.
