Being in a shelter for an extended period can have a significant impact on a dog’s well-being. The constant feeling of rejection takes a toll on their spirits, leaving them with a dimmed light. One such dog is Major, a four-year-old terrier/pitbull mix, currently residing at the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Indiana.
Major’s journey began when he was found as a stray last summer. The shelter staff discovered he had a microchip, allowing them to contact his original owners. Although they promised to come and retrieve him, they never showed up. Since then, Major has been patiently waiting at the shelter, hoping for a second chance at a loving home.
Despite facing heartbreak and rejection, Major initially displayed a happy and hopeful demeanor. Described as a “sweet and sensitive” dog, he is known for his friendly nature and a big heart. Major loves to play and cherishes his Jolly Ball, making him a true companion. The shelter staff affectionately called him “Major hunk” and “Major heartthrob,” emphasizing his handsome appearance.
However, as months passed by without finding a forever family, Major’s once bright spirit started to fade. The constant rejections have left him feeling downcast, resulting in endless tears within the shelter walls. Recognizing the toll this was taking on him, the humane society decided to move Major from the kennels to a dedicated visiting room, hoping to provide a more comforting environment. But what Major truly needs is a forever home, where he can regain his joy and bounce back.
Major would thrive in a family without young children or cats. Although he can get along with other dogs, he might not always realize his own strength. The shelter encourages a meet-and-greet to ensure compatibility. While not every home may be suitable for Major, there is undoubtedly a perfect family out there waiting to embrace his sweetness and playfulness.
If you are in the area and interested in making Major a part of your family, please consider visiting the Humane Society of Hamilton County. You can fill out an application on his adoption page and schedule a meeting. Let’s help put an end to Major’s despair and find him the loving home he truly deserves!
Let’s join hands to spread the word about Major’s story and increase his chances of finding a new home. Share his story with others and help us make a difference in this beautiful dog’s life!
