Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas separated in 2015 after nearly two decades of marriage, but they still cherish their time together.

Such was the case with the actress’ most recent social media post, in which she reflected on their life together during Holy Week in Spain.

Semana Santa, or Holy Week, is an annual commemoration of Christ’s passion observed by Catholics in many Spanish villages with beautiful processions as a sort of penance.

Melanie recalled how momentous the occasion was during her marriage to the Spanish Oscar contender from 1996 until 2015, sharing photos of the commemoration, which takes place between April 2 and 9 this year.

“During the 19 years I was married to Antonio, one of the many extraordinary experiences he gave to the kids and I was our introduction to and subsequent love for Semana Santa,” she wrote alongside them. “This is Holy Week.”

“It is an old and wonderful tradition.” During Holy Week, nearly a hundred thrones depicting Christ and the Virgin Mary are paraded through Malaga’s streets. From Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday, every day and night. This week is fantastic and mystical.

Melanie recalls Semana Santa with ex-Antonio.

“Many people follow behind these thrones on their sometimes eight-hour journey,” the 65-year-old continued. “I was brought to tears the first time I saw Cautivo. I consider it a spiritual experience.”

She shared her memories of the holy procession, writing: “So for many, many years, I was privileged to be one of the 30,000 people who follow behind him on his journey through the city.”

Melanie concluded with a heartfelt message to her ex: “I send so much love to my family and friends in Spain.” Caution, Caution! Live Spain! @antoniobanderas, gracias y amor [Thank you, my love].”

Melanie, whose mother is Tippi Hedren, and Antonio, 62, are the parents of Stella, who was born in 1996. Melanie previously married Stephen Bauer between 1981 to 1989, and the couple has a 37-year-old son named Alexander.

She was previously married to Don Johnson twice, once between 1976 and 1979 and again between 1989 and 1996. Dakoka Johnson, 33, is the daughter of Don and Melanie. From 1987 through 1996, Antonio was married to Ana Leza.
