In a somber yet upbeat blog post, Jase Robertson’s wife announced that her grandfather, whom she called “Pops,” had died from lymphoma just two days before the holiday. Even though mourning this loss was difficult, Missy also revealed some concerning information.
“Five days before he died, my grandmother, GG, collapsed at her house and injured herself.” According to the author, he was taken to an in-patient rehabilitation facility after being transferred to a hospital.
Her grandfather spent his final days apart from his wife of more than 70 years, which was extremely difficult for the entire family, but they had a plan.
Knowing Pops’ days were numbered, they persuaded her grandmother’s doctor to release her for a short time on Thanksgiving so the couple could spend time together.
“It became clear that Pops had his intentions when he heard of these massive plans,” she added. “He didn’t want his 70-year-old wife, his sweetheart and lifelong partner, to see him suffer. That was abundantly clear to him.”
“Pops” was a devout man who was ready to enter Heaven even though his wife lived far away. Missy and her family had planned a FaceTime call for the couple on the morning of his death. “I love you so much, Tom,” she said, knowing that her husband was about to enter Heaven. “Everything is fine. I promise I’ll be fine. Go on. I’ll see you there.”
According to Missy’s note, Pops took his final three breaths after the call ended.
On Thanksgiving, two days after his death, the entire family paid a visit to her grandmother’s rehab facility, bringing plenty of Thanksgiving fare. They talked about “Pops” fondly and expressed gratitude for his existence.
Missy captured an extraordinary scene that occurred at his funeral. Her grandmother was given a folded American flag in memory of her late husband, who served in the military for many years.
