Quinn Redeker, a prominent serial opera star on “Days of Our Lives,” died at 86.
Redeker died on December 20th in Los Angeles from causes unrelated to his illness. According to Deadline, his family informed the public of his death.
Between 1979 through 1987, the actor appeared on “Days of Our Lives” as Alex Marshall, a shady character who was eventually sentenced to prison for insurance fraud on the show.
Redeker’s other roles include Rex Sterling on the daytime serial opera “The Young and the Restless,” which he played from 1987 until 1994. Before taking on the role of Sterling, he had recurring appearances as two other characters in the series.
Redeker’s roles on “The Young and the Restless” have been characterized as a “blessing” by the show’s official Twitter account, which paid tribute to him in a brief post.
Throughout his career, Redeker’s portrayal of Rex Sterling earned him two Daytime Emmy nominations for best-supporting actor in a drama series. The prize is given out once a year.
Redeker was also a screenwriter, and his screenplay for the classic film “The Deer Hunter,” which starred Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, and Meryl Streep and was released in 1978, won him an Academy Award nomination. Redeker was granted a co-credit for the story, and the film won five Oscars, including Best Picture.

Redeker was married to Suzanne Elizabeth Long between 1958 and 1959. He later married actress Patricia Ann Graves, with whom he was married from 1963 to 1980. The second couple ended up having four children together.
After his death, his children and two grandchildren will carry on his legacy.
